Three Baloch women at Rio Olympics

Madiea Ghafoor is being touted as the first Baloch woman taking part at the Rio Olympics 2016.

Born and raised in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the 23-year-old is the granddaughter of famous Baloch politician and activist from Lyari, Lala Lal Bakhsh Rind.

She will be representing Netherlands in the 4×400 relay in the games.

Talking to a newspaper, she said she felt proud after she knew she was the first Baloch woman to participate in the Olympics.

However, she is among the three Baloch women taking part in the Rio Olympics, from three different countries – no one from Pakistan though.

The UAE Baloch national, 24-year-old Aisha Al Balooshi, was a participant in the weightlifting competition.

Oman-based Baloch shooter, Wadha al Baluchi, took part at the Olympics’ 10m Air Pistol event on August 7.
